Hizb-ut Tahrir sends letter to judges
Dhaka: Police on Wednesday detained a person, claiming to be a postman of Sundarban Courier Service, while he was distributing letters among judges of Supreme Court.
Police said the detainee, Asad Ullah (27), is a member of banned Islamic organisation Hizb-ut Tahrir.
Shahbagh Police sub-inspector Md Shafiqul Islam said Asad went to deliver a letter to Justice JBM Hasan at about 5:00pm. He introduced himself as a postman of Dilkusha branch of Sundarban Courier. He is from Gazipur.
A total of 41 letters were seized from him. He admitted that the letters were for judges, who were threatened with death in the letters.
‘Judges work for the government and so they will be killed,’ read the letters, said SI Shafiqul Islam.
Responding to a question on why police had detained a postman, SI Shafiqul Islam said usually letters carried by a courier service bear names and phone numbers of senders, but the letters had no such identities and Asad himself was distributing them to judges.
Police are questioning Asad and filing of a case was underway, said SI Shafiqul Islam.
