HC once again stays suspension of Sonargaon upazila chairman
The High Court on Monday stayed for the third time the suspension order of Azharul Islam Mannan, chairman of Sonargaon upazila parishad in Narayanganj, clearing the way for him to get back the responsibility of his office.
An HC bench comprising Justice Naima Haider and Justice Abu Taher M Saifur Rahman passed the order after hearing a petition filed by Mannan, also a BNP leader, reports the UNB.
The court also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned, including the local government secretary, to explain within four weeks as to why the suspension order should not be declared illegal.
Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, advocates Sanjida Siddiqui and Sakib Mahbub argued for the petitioner while deputy attorney general Mokhlesur Rahman represented the state.
On July 5 last, the LGRD ministry suspended UPZ chairman Mannan for the third time as a Naranyaganj court framed charges against him in a violence case on April 27.
Earlier, the upazila chairman was suspended twice on February 16, 2016 and March 8 this year and later, the HC also stayed the suspension orders following separate petitions.
