Stop movement of human haulers on highways
Dhaka: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday asked the deputy commissioners to take steps to stop the plying of battery-run human haulers on highways and informed him whether they face any obstacle.
“We’ve realised that the authorities concerned have taken steps to implement the government’s decision to ban the plying of human haulers on highways but the drive is being hampered in some places,” he said.
The minister was talking to reporters after attending the 7th working session of the 2nd day of the three-day Deputy Commissioners’ conference at the Cabinet Division.
As the DCs complained that they have been facing obstruction in this regard politically, the minister said, “I told them that I, Awami League general secretary, am asking you to inform me directly about any hindrance. Inform me if your face any interference from my party men.”
Besides, he asked the deputy commissioners to conduct drives against angles and hooks in goods-laden vehicles, including trucks and covered vans, across the country.
Talking about giving protocol to a VIP by the DC and the police super, Quader said the additional deputy commissioner and a magistrate concerned are enough for giving protocol to a VIP. “If the DCs and SPs remain busy with VIPs, when will they do their work and listen to people? I asked them through the Cabinet Secretary to reconsider the matter.”
