Wasa not sincere to solve waterlogging problem
Dhaka: Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon on Wednesday alleged accused the city's water and sewerage authority, Wasa, of insincerity in the fight to free the city of waterlogging.
The DSCC mayor made the remarks while talking to reporters as he visited city's different areas, which were inundated after several days of nonstop rain.
Waterlogging has reared its ugly head in different parts of the city due to the heavy rainfalls and DSCC workers are working to mitigate problems restlessly, said the mayor.
"Although it is duty for the Wasa workers, our workers are doing it," said Khokon, adding that no Wasa workers were seen in city roads during the waterlogging and their seriousness is low in this regard.
He said there are no drainage systems in the city for passing water when it rains up to 100/150 mm. "The problems would be resolved easily if the drainages were constructed in a planned way."
DSCC Chief Executive Officer Khan Mohammad Belal, its chief engineer Forazi Shahab Uddin and other officials of the city corporation were also present during the visit.
