Gulshan café terror attack mastermind Rashed held in Natore
Police arrested another mastermind of the Gulshan café attack from Singra upazila in Natore district early Friday.
Tipped off, a special team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Lawful Interception Cell (LIC) of police headquarters, and Bogra and Natore district police conducted a joint drive at Singra bus stand around 5:30am and arrested Rashed alias Rash alias Abu Jarra, 24.
Later, he was brought to the head office of Detective Branch of police at Minto Road in the capital around 3:30pm, said DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said the Gulshan café attack was launched under the supervision of militant Rashed.
"He was one of masterminds of the Holey Artisan Bakery attack. We have intelligence report that the assault was carried out under his supervision," he said while talking to reporters after inaugurating an art competition in the city.
Gunmen attacked the Holey Artisan Bakery in the Gulshan diplomatic zone in the city on July 1, 2016, and killed 20 hostages, mostly foreign nationals.
Two police officials were also killed during the 12-hour hostage crisis.
