DMP sets out road restrictions for Janmashtami

Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Sunday requested drivers and users to refrain from plying vehicles on some selective streets between 2pm and 6pm on Monday as the Hindu community will bring out main Janmashtami procession, marking the birth of Lord Krishna, with due religious fervour.
According to Hindu religion, Lord Vishnu incarnated in the universe as Lord Krishna in the prison of Raja Kangsa on this day, the eighth of "Shukla Pakkha" (bright fortnight) in the month of Bengali calendar Bhadra in Dwapara Yuga in order to protect "Dharma" from the hands of devils.
The main procession will begin from Dhakeshwari National Temple and it will travel through Palashi Crossing-in front of SM Hall-Jagannath Hall crossing-left turn to Dhaka University Medical Centre-Rumana Chattar-Doyel Chattar-Hight Court Crossing-right turn-Sarkari Karmachari Hospital crossing-left turn to in front of Police headquarters-Gulapshah Mazar-Gulistan crossing-right turn Kaptan Bazar crossing-Nababpur Road-Rathkhola crossing-Raisaheb Bazar Crossing-Bahadur Shah Park (Victoria Park).
The vehicles' drivers or users were requested to avoid those streets for evading traffic jam during the time as the procession will end at Bahadur Shah Park starting from the Dhakeshwari national Temple, said Deputy Commissioner (Media) of DMP Masudur Rahman.
The city dwellers are requested to use alternative roads to ply their vehicles during the Janmashtami procession. The DMP sought all out cooperation from the city dwellers, transport owners and employees in this regard, the DC (Media) said.
