Razzak not given due respect, alleges BNP
Dhaka: BNP on Wednesday criticised the government for what it said not showing proper respect for legendary film actor Razzak as he was not buried in state honour at Banani Graveyard.
‘Actor Razzak was very popular to people of all ages. He had worked hard to enrich the Bangladesh film industry and develop it. Where’s his evaluation today?’ said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
‘Jibon Theke Newa was a wonderful film where Razzak played the main role...he also played a superb role in Ora Egara Jan, a film on the Liberation War. But, what respect was shown to him? Such an actor was not honoured,’ he deplored.
Rizvi came up with the comments while speaking at a discussion arranged by Bangladesh National Awami Party-Bangladesh Nap at the Jatiya Press Club, marking its ex-chairman and former minister Shafiqul Gani Swapan’s eight death anniversary.
He said not only Awami League and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman played the role in preparing the nation for the Liberation War. ‘Zahir Raihan and many others had also outstanding contributions to it.’
Celebrated actor Razzak, who passed away at a city hospital on Monday, was laid to eternal rest at Banani Graveyard on Wednesday morning.
Rizvi alleged that the government even honoured anti-Liberation War elements that later raised ‘Joy Bangla’ slogan. ‘Those who had recited poems on Pakistan Radio in 1971, they later became Bangabandhu’s soldier and Awami League’s intellectuals. And they’re given the state honour.’
A teacher like Dr Piash Karim and a journalist like Sirajur Rahman were not given the state honour as they were critics of the government.
