Govt committed to ensuring freedom of judiciary: Anisul
Rangpur: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Anisul Huq here on Thursday said the present government is firmly committed to ensuring freedom of judiciary.
‘Awami League (AL) always believes in the rule of law and we are respectful to the rule of law regardless of any disagreement in opinion,’ he said at a discussion after inaugurating the newly-built five-storey building of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court here as the chief guest.
‘Bangladesh has become independent under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman--- but the verdict of the sixteen amendment has not written about the single leadership of Bangabandhu,’ he said.
He said, ‘Every word of the judgment on the sixteenth amendment is being examined--- We will wait for our next step till completion of examination.’
‘The constitution of 1972 enunciated how judges can be recruited or removed—But, Ziaur Rahman formed the Supreme Judicial Council after coming to power illegally in 1977,’ he said.
‘We are respectful to the verdict of the Appellate Division though we do not agree on some matters—We have some disagreements and we want to make those very clear,’ he said.
With District and Sessions Judge Humayun Kabir in the chair, State Minister for Rural Development and Cooperatives Mashiur Rahman Ranga, Mayor of Rangpur Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu, Advocate Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia, MP, Law, Judiciary and Parliamentary Affairs Secretary Abu Saleh, its Additional Secretary Mostafizur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Wahiduzzaman, district AL Acting President Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, city AL President Shafiur Rahman Safi, President of Rangpur Ainjibi Samity Advocate Abdul Kaiyum, its General Secretary and Public Prosecutor Abdul Malek, addressed the occasion as special guests.
Earlier, a large number of people, including lawyers and judges, welcomed Anisul Haq with flowers after his arrival on Rangpur Judge Court premises.
Later, he exchanged views with lawyers at Rangpur Ainjibi Samity auditorium.
Presided over by President of Rangpur Ainjibi Samity Advocate Abdul Kaiyum, the meeting, among others, was addressed by State Minister for Local Government Moshiar Rahman Ranga, Advocate Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia MP, and General Secretary of Rangpur Ainjibi Samity Advocate Abdul Malek Advocate.
