YouTube rewards NTV again

Dhaka: YouTube is one of the most popular video sharing websites in the world, with visitors watching more than a billion hours of videos every single day. Put back-to-back, that's more than 100,000 years of footage, split between the millions of YouTube users across the world.

Beside television, millions of users around the world can share and watch videos on the American video-sharing platform. As videos are the main content of YouTube, the YouTube authorities recognize its most popular channels by handing over YouTube Creator Rewards.

Recently, YouTube has honoured one of the popular private television channels in Bangladesh, International Television Channel Limited (NTV), by rewarding it with ‘YouTube Silver Play Button’ trophy for the second time. NTV, as the first and only television among public and private televisions in Bangladesh, has been received the prestigious reward from YouTube.

Verified YouTuber, who has more than 100,000 subscribers, is awarded with a trophy in a metal casing with a silver YouTube play button symbol.

In a letter of appreciation, YouTube Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Susan Wojcicki said, ‘You’ve just done something very few YouTube creators accomplish: You had an astonishing 100,000 people subscribe to your channel.’ Wojcicki said, ‘We know you don’t do this for rewards. You do it because you have a drive to create and share, and because you’ve found an audience who cares.’

Expressing his feelings about the reward, Head of NTV Online Khandaker Fakaruddin Ahmed said, ‘We created the official YouTube channel of NTV only two years back. Within the very little span of time, we achieved the highest subscribers count in Bangladesh. People across the world watch news and programmes on our channels—Natok, Entertainment, Telefilm, Movie. We’re feeling great after receiving the reward from YouTube. This time, we got the Silver Play Button Reward. I hope we will achieve the Gold, Diamond, and Ruby buttons in the future.’

The NTV Online chief also said we have received the two rewards for ‘NTV Natok’ and ‘NTV Entertainment’ channels. The YouTube authorities have also informed that we will be awarded very soon for ‘NTV Bangla Movie’ and ‘NTV Live’ channels.

NTV’s digital platform NTV Online started its journey in February 2015. Since its inception, the official YouTube channel of NTV was also launched. Soon after the inception, NTV Online prioritized on its video contents. With the involvements of its subscribers, NTV has reached another milestone today. A total of 15 channels of NTV have around 1,000,000 subscribers, which is the highest number of subscribers jointly in Bangladesh.

Among the 15 channels, NTV Natok has become more popular for its dramas and telefilms. More than 347,000 subscribers follow the channel.

Recently, NTV Entertainment channel has also crossed more than 171,000 subscribers.

YouTube is one of the most popular websites in Bangladesh. The web traffic data supply organization Alexa ranked YouTube as the top of their ranking in 2016.

YouTube is an American video-sharing website headquartered in California, USA. The service was created by three former PayPal employees – Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim – in February 2005. Google bought the site in November 2006; YouTube now operates as one of Google's subsidiaries. The site allows users to upload, view, rate, share, add to favorites, report and comment on videos, subscribe to other users, and it makes use of WebM, H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, and Adobe Flash Video technology to display a wide variety of user-generated and corporate media videos. Available content includes video clips, TV show clips, music videos, short and documentary films, audio recordings, movie trailers and other content such as video blogging, short original videos, and educational videos.
