PM attends milad for Sheikh Russel
Dhaka: A milad and doa mahfil was held at Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi after Maghrib prayers on Wednesday on the occasion of the 53rd birth anniversary of Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the elder sister of Sheikh Russel, attended the milad and doa mahfil.
A special munajat was offered seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of Sheikh Russel as well as Bangabandhu and other martyrs of the August 15 carnage.
The participants in the doa mahfil also prayed for good health and long life of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her younger sister Sheikh Rehana.
Pesh Imam of Sobhanbagh Jame Mosque Alhaj Md Liakat Hossain conducted the munajat.
Leaders of Awami League and family members and relatives of the Prime Minister, including Sheikh Helal Uddin, MP, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, MP, Sheikh Kabir Hossain and Sheikh Jewel, joined the milad and doa mahfil, among others.
Besides, officials and employees of the Prime Minister's Office, Ganobhaban and Bangabandhu Memorial Museum attended the event.
On this day in 1964, Sheikh Russel was born in the historic Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi Road-32 in Dhaka.
On the fateful night of August 15 in 1975, Sheikh Russel along with most of the family members of Bangabandhu was brutally killed by some derailed junior army officers.
