Fallen tree halts traffic between Dhaka and northern region
Gaibandha: Vehicular movement on Dhaka-Rangpur highway has remained halted since Saturday morning as a big tree fallen on the road at Palashbari due to storm coupled with heavy rains.
The traffic movement remained snapped from 7:30am, disrupting road communication of Dhaka with the country’s northern parts, witnesses said.
They said some 2,000 vehicles - buses and trucks—on both sides of the highway got stranded, causing immense woes to thousands of passengers amid incessant rains.
Police said they started removing the tree from the highway with the help of local people to restore traffic on the busy highway. It may take hours to clear the highway, police added.
