HC seeks explanation over legality of FF age limit
Dhaka: The High Court here on Tuesday issued a rule seeking explanation as to why the government's decision to impose an age limit of freedom fighters will not be illegal.
Earlier on November 10, the government issued a gazette stating that the minimum age of freedom fighters should be above 13 years on March 26 in 1971.
An HC bench comprising of Justice Rezaul Haque and Justice Mohammed Ullah issued the rule as Khandakar Shahidul Islam, a freedom fighter brought the matter to the court's notice.
The name of Khandker Shahidul Islam, was eliminated from the list of freedom fighters after government's recent decision though his name was there in two other lists of freedom fighters prepared earlier.
Shahidul Islam received a letter by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs in this regard.
The HC also stayed the letter for six months and ordered the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs to submit a reply of the rule.
