Fakhrul goes to Rangpur Monday to join electioneering
Dhaka: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam is going to Rangpur on Monday to hit the campaign trail at the last movement in favour of their party mayoral candidate in the city polls there.
Fakhrul is scheduled to leave Dhaka for Saidpur by air around 8am on Monday, BNP chairperson’s media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan said on Sunday.
From Saiddpur, he said, the BNP secretary general will go to Rangpur and conduct electioneering at different points of the city in favour of BNP mayoral aspirant Kausar Zaman Babla.
Fakhrul will stay overnight in Rangpur city on Monday night.
He will also conduct campaign on Tuesday morning before going to his village home in Thakurgaon, Sayrul added.
Fakhrul will also hold meetings with local BNP leaders and give them necessary directions for ensuring the victory of their party mayoral hopeful.
Rangpur City Corporation will go to polls on December 21 while the deadline for election campaign expires on Tuesday midnight.
Outgoing mayor Mayor Sarfuddin Ahmed is vying for the mayoral post with Awami League ticket.
Babla was defeated by Sarfuddin in the maiden election to Rangpur City Corporation on December 20, 2012.
