President for more research on freedom struggle

President Abdul Hamid on Thursday emphasized on carrying out more research on Liberation War and freedom struggle as it is the sacred responsibilities and duties for all to ensure that present and future generation know the actual history of the country’s independence.

President made the remark while addressing a programme on unveiling the cover of a book named ‘1971: Resistance, Resilience and Redemption’ written by his military secretary Major General Md Sarwar Hossain at Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban in the evening, reports the UNB.

President hoped that people, who cherish the spirit of liberation war, including writers, researchers, intellectuals and journalists, would conduct research works on liberation war and freedom struggle.

‘As a result, people from generation to generation will able to know the history of the Liberation War, enrich them with knowledge of the Liberation War and its spirit. It will bring benefits for the country,’ he said.

Terming the freedom struggle and the Liberation War as most important and glory chapter of Bengali’s history, President said a vested quarter tried to distort the history of our 1971 Liberation War in many ways and they became successful for a temporary period but they finally got defeated.

‘The quarter who distorts the history will be thrown to the dustbin of the history ultimately’, he added.

Referring to struggle of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Abdul Hamid said Bangabandhu wanted economic emancipation of the Bangalees alongside the political freedom but the overall progress was halted after his brutal assassination. 

Now the country, President said, is proceeding towards development and progress under the relentless efforts of Bangabandhu’s eldest daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

President thanked the author for writing the book which would a part of the history as it depicted the different aspects of 1971 Liberation War, including perspective, background, position of military, primary  resistance, sector commanders of during the liberation war and sectors.

Presided over by Prime Minister’s International Affairs Adviser Dr. Gowher Rizvi, the function was addressed, among others, by former Director General (DG) of Bangla Academy Prof Syed Anwar Hussain, Prof Syed Manzoorul Islam of Dhaka University and DG of Bangla Academy Prof Shamsuzzaman Khan.
