Gas crisis: minister suggests LPG use
Dhaka: ‘Gas crisis in residential areas is very usual and not an important issue... Supply line renovation works are going on and soon the problem will be solved... Domestic users should gradually shift towards LPG [Liquid Petroliam Gas],’ said State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid on Wednesday.
Following a seminar on sustainable development and renewable energy at Dhaka University and inauguration of a display of renewable energy apparatus, the minister told reporters that the government is trying to bring about 70 percent residential areas under LPG supply net.
‘We are trying to bring down the price of LPG. Our target is to bring the whole residential sector under LPG supply. LPG prices had been reduced and it will continue. I think, LPG use in houses will bring an end to gas crisis.’
The seminar was attended among others by DU Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique, Sustainable Renewable Energy Development Authority Chairman Anwarul Islam, Practical Action Bangladesh Country Director Hasin Zahan and Solar Energy Society adviser Mohtesham Hossain.
