Certified copy of Khaleda Zia verdict in afternoon
Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is expecting to get on Wednesday afternoon the certified copy of the verdict that sentenced its chairperson Khaleda Zia to five years’ imprisonment in a graft case.
Advocate Sanaullah Mia, counsel of the BNP chief, on Wednesday said they will get the copy of the verdict of Zia Orphanage Trust graft case around 4:00pm.
‘If we get the certified copy of the verdict today, we will file appeal tomorrow [Thursday],’ said the lawyer.
Besides, Pro-BNP lawyers, led by senior joint secretary of BNP Ainjibi Forum Sanaullah Mia, started observing a token hunger strike in the morning demanding the release of its chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.
As part of BNP’s countrywide six-hour hunger strike, the programme began around 11:30am at Metropolitan Judge Court premises.
Earlier on February 8, a special court here convicted former prime minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and sentenced her to five years’ imprisonment in the much-talked-about Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
She was then sent to the old central jail at Nazimuddin Road in the city.
On the same day, BNP sought a certified copy of the verdict to file an appeal.
