Road crashes kill 5 in Rangpur, Sherpur
Dhaka: Five people, including a woman and three teenage boys, were killed in two road accidents in Rangpur and Sherpur districts on Wednesday.
In Rangpur, three people, including a woman and a boy, were killed and 19 others injured when a Rangpur-bound ‘Haque Paribahan’ bus from Thakurgaon collided head-on with a pickup coming from the opposite direction at Ekorchali in Taraganj upazila in the evening.
Two of the deceased are Shahabuddin, in his fifties, and Oli Ahmad Shejan, around 12 years old, residents of Nilphamari district.
The accident left 22 people injured, said Zinat Ali, officer-in-charge of Taraganj Police Station.
The injured were taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where three of them succumbed to their injuries, he said.
In Sherpur, two teenage boys were killed and another was injured when a pick-up hit their motorcycle at Chaitajani in Sreebardi upazila in the afternoon.
The deceased are Rian Hossian, around 15 years old, son of Jahangir Alam, and Bappi Miah, around 16 years old, of Baniapara village in the upazila.
The accident took place around 2:00pm, leaving three boys badly injured, said Mohammad Rezaul Haque, officer-in-charge of Sreebardi Police Station.
The injured were taken to Sherpur District Hospital where Rian succumbed to his injuries while Bappi died on the way to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
