Muhammad Faruk Khan, MP, Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism on Friday hoped that Myanmar will take back Rohingya people who took shelter in Bangladesh after being displaced forcibly.

‘Bangladesh expects that Myanmar will take back forcibly displaced Rohingya people who took shelter in Bangladesh as per ongoing agreement signed between the two countries,’ Faruk Khan said while addressing the annual parliamentary hearing of Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) at United Nations headquarters on Friday.

President of the United Nations General Assembly Miroslav Lajčák also addressed the inaugural session of the first day’s hearing tilted ‘Towards a Global compact for safe, orderly and regular migration: A parliamentary perspective’.

Speaking at the two-day parliamentary hearing, Faruk Khan said we have provided safe shelter to Rohingya people only for the humanitarian ground.

The lawmaker also thanked United Nations and IPU for standing beside Bangladesh on Rohingya issue, according to a press release received here on Friday from Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to United Nations.

Faruk Khan, who is leading the 6-member Bangladesh delegation attending the UN program, said more than one million Rohingya people are now staying in Bangladesh.

Mentioning that more than nine million Bangladeshi have been migrated in different countries, Faruk Khan said Bangladesh has been relentlessly working to take forward the safe, lawful and regular migration and to protect the basic rights and dignity of all migrated people whatever their migratory status.
