BNP to wait to get rally permission
Dhaka: Though the party has all-out preparations for holding a rally in the city’s Suhrawardy Udyan on Monday, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Sunday said they have not yet received permission for the programme.
‘Though we’re ready to hold our rally, we’ve not yet been given nod for it. We’re waiting for permission from the police authorities,’ he said.
The BNP leader came up with the comment while speaking at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office.
Rizvi said the Public Works Department has already informed them that it will have no objection to allow the party to use the Suhrawardy Udyan for the rally if Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) gives permission for it.
Earlier on March 12, BNP announced to hold the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on Monday, having failed to get permission to hold the similar programme on that day.
On March 2, BNP first announced to hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on March 12, demanding the release of its chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.
The DMP authorities, however, informed BNP on March 11 that they could not permit the party to hold its rally on security grounds.
