Kakon Bibi to be laid to rest in afternoon
Sylhet: Freedom fighter Bir Protik Kakon Bibi, who passed way at a hospital on Wednesday night, will be laid to rest at her village in Jhirargaon of Doarabazar upazila in Sunamganj of Sylhet on Thursday afternoon.
She will be buried with state honour following a namaz-e-janaza at Laxmipur School field at 3:30pm, said Ismail Miah, her son-in-law.
The body of Kakon Bibi was taken to his home from MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital on Thursday morning.
Bir Protik Kakon Bibi, the Liberation War heroine, breathed her last at the hospital around 11:05pm. She was reportedly aged 103.
On Monday last, she was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital due to serious health complications.
Kakon Bibi had long been suffering from asthma and heart diseases and she had an attack of pneumonia recently.
In 1971, Kakon Bibi was arrested and brutally tortured by Pakistani army as she worked as a war spy and fought against the Pak army. She fearlessly took part in some 20 battles.
She sustained bullet wounds to her leg at the Ambari fight. Kakon Bibi bore the bullet marks on her body unto her death.
