Boy rescued from dead mother’s side put under custody of aunt
Narayanganj: The one-and-half-year-old baby boy, Nahid, who reportedly spent three days with the body of his mother in their locked house in Fatullah has been put under the custody of his aunt.
Nahid’s father Al Amin, son of late Asilla Sardar of Fatullah, strangulated his wife Rima to death at their Kotalerbag Bou Bazar residence on Sunday and fled locking the house from outside keeping his son Nahid inside.
The toddler spent three days in the house without any food.
Hearing his screams and smelling bad odour, locals stormed the house on Wednesday afternoon breaking open the door only to find Rima’s decomposed body lying on the bed and her son sucking one of her fingers.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to hospital.
Meanwhile, the body was handed over to the local UP member after autopsy on Thursday as police could not trace any of her relatives. Later, she was buried in a local graveyard.
Atal Das, sub-inspector of Fatullah Police Station, said, ‘We’re trying to trace the relatives of Rima.’
He also said the baby was put under the custody of Mahinur Begum, wife of Al Amin’s brother Babu. The ill-fated child is only consuming liquid milk since he was rescued.
Meanwhile, Mahinur Begum, also mother of two children, said she is already taking care of Zunayed, 2, son of her another brother-in-law, who also lost his mother.
