Poet Belal Chowdhury passes away
Dhaka: Prominent poet Belal Chowdhury died undergoing treatment at a city hospital on Tuesday afternoon. He was 79.
The Bangla Academy Literary Award winning poet breathed his last at Anwar Khan Modern Hospital at about 12:15pm.
Abdullah Protik Chowdhury, son of the poet, told NTV Online, Belal Chowdhury died before the physician could remove the life support. The physicians tried their best to give treatment to poet by keeping him on life support.
On 21 April, 2008, he was put on life support as his conditions deteriorated.
Earlier, on August 2017, Belal Chowdhury was admitted to hospital with kidney disorders.
Apart from Bangla Academy Literary Award, the poet also received Mazharul Islam Poetry Award and Ekushey Padak.
Belal Chowdhury served Bharat Bichitra as its editor published from Indian embassy in Dhaka. He was also an editor of the Shaptahik Sandwip published by Rupali Group and Krittibas, a Bengali poetry magazine, edited by Sunil Gangopadhyay.
