35 killed, dozens injured in road accidents across the country
Dhaka: At least 35 people were killed and many others were injured in separate road accidents in Gaibandha, Rangpur, Dhaka, Sirajganj, Gopalganj, Natore and Chuadanga districts on Saturday.
Among the victims, 16 were killed in Gaibandha, six in Rangpur, four in Savar, two each in Natore, Gopalganj and Sirajganj districts and one in Chuadanga.
22 killed in Gaibandha, Rangpur road crashes
At least 22 people were killed and 42 others injured in road accidents in Gaibandha and Rangpur districts on early Saturday.
In Gaibandha, at least 16 people were killed and 37 others injured as a bus crashed into a tree at Goruhati in Palashbari upazila early Saturday.
Details about the deceased are still awaited.
The accident took place around 5:30am when the bus hit the roadside tree as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving eight passengers dead on the spot and 45 injured, said Akhtaruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Palashbari Police Station.
Later, eight of the injured died on the way to hospital.
In Rangpur, at least six people, including two women, were killed and five others injured as a truck hit a bus at Shayelashah Bazar in Gangachhara Upazila around 2:30am.
The accident took place when the sand-laden truck hit the stationary BRTC double-decker bus, leaving six passengers of the bus dead on the spot and five others injured, said Abdullah Hel Baki, officer-in-charge of Taraganj Highway Police.
Two of the deceased were identified as Nishat, 20, and Sajjad, 19.
In Natore, two people were killed and three others injured when a sand-laden truck hit an easy-bike in Alaipur area of the district town around 7:00am, said Mohiuddin, station officer of Natore Fire Service.
The deceased were identified as Sulta Rani Debnath and Kanailal Debnath, residents of Sonapatil village of Naldanga upazila.
The injured were admitted to Sadar Hospital.
In Gopalganj, two motorcyclists were killed as a bus their vehicle after the bus driver lost control over the wheel on Gopalganj-Tungipara road in Ghonapara area of Sadar upazila around 7:45am, said Sub-inspector Shawkat of the Sadar Police Station.
The deceased were not identified immediately.
In Sirajganj, at least two people were killed and 19 others were injured following head-on collision between a truck and a bus on Dhaka-Bogura highway in Kaliakapur area of Raiganj upazila around 6:30am, said Abdul Kader Zilani, officer-in-charge of Hatikumrul Highway Police.
Besides, seven more people — four in Savar, two in Faridpur, and one person in Chuadanga — were killed in road accidents.
