As people across the country continued to suffer due to scorching heat, the weather office on Friday predicted that there might be rains in many districts under the influence of a depression formed over the Bay. Light to moderate rains/thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind and lightning flashes are likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Barishal and Chattogram divisions and at a few places over Rajshahi, Dhaka and Khulna divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country, said a Met office bulletin.

Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary South or South-East gusty or squally wind speed 45-60 kph are likely to occur in many places over Dhaka, Mymensingh, Faridpur, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Cumilla, Noakhali, Chattogram and Cox's Bazar.

River ports of the districts have been asked to hoist signal No 1. The Met office recorded the highest temperature in Dhaka at 37.6 degrees Celsius on Thursday while the highest temperature on Friday is 35.8 degrees Celsius. Mild to moderate heat is sweeping over Dhaka, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna and Barishal divisions, and the regions of Cumilla and Noakhali.

The maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal No 3 on Friday as the low over North Bay and adjoining area now lies over Northwest Bay and adjoining areas. It is likely to intensify.

Under its influence deep convection is taking place over North bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh. Squally weather is likely to affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of the country. All the fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to come close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.

The day temperature may fall by (1-3) degree Celsius while the night temperature may fall slightly over the country. The monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate over North Bay. Besides, mild to moderate heat wave sweeping over Dhaka, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna and Barishal divisions and the regions of Cumilla, Noakhali, Sandwip and Sitakunda is likely to abate, the bulletin added.
