30-km tailback on Dhaka-Chattogram highway
Cumilla: A 30-kilometre tailback was created on Dhaka-Chattogram highway from Daudkandi upazila on Friday following a road accident, inflicting untold sufferings on passengers for the 4th consecutive day.
Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge of Daudkandi Highway Police Station, said a rod-laden truck overturned on the highway in Bhaberchar area of Gozaria upazila in Munshiganj district around 3am, halting vehicular movement on the highway for two hours.
The suspension of the traffic led to a tailback stretching from Amirabad of Daudkanti to Sonargaon Chowrasta in Narayanganj, he said, adding that the rush of homebound people and heavy pressure of cattle-laden vehicles aggravated the situation.
Passengers were suffering for the 4th successive day as the tailback on the highway continued from Tuesday last.
Jahidul Islam, a student of Comilla University who is going to his village home to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha with his near and dear ones, said he was stuck in traffic jam in Daudkandi for three hours.
The situation slightly improved in Comilla portion of the highway in the afternoon.
