Jashore: A man, suspected of being involved in the murder of an eight-year-old girl, was killed in an alleged gunfight in Kholadanga suburb early Wednesday.

Police identified the deceased as Shamim, 30, a resident of the area, reports the UNB.

Kotwali Police Station’s in-charge Apurba Hasan said they sent a team to Kholadanga around 3am after being tipped off that two gangs of drug traders were engaged in a gunfight.

‘The police team came under fire as soon as it reached the spot,’ the OC said. ‘After a skirmish, we found Shamim’s body at the spot.’

Police also claimed to have recovered a shutter gun and 50 yaba pills.

Shamim was a suspect in the murder of schoolgirl Trisha. Her body was found in a sack in a ditch behind the house of a neighbour at Dharmatala on Monday evening, a day after she went missing.

Police said they suspect the child was raped before she was killed.

A case was filed in this connection.
