Serajul Akbar’s janaza held on JS premises

Dhaka: The first namaz-e-janaza of Awami League MP Professor Dr Muhammad Serajul Akbar was held at the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Tuesday afternoon.

Ministers, the Deputy Speaker, MPs, leaders of Awami League, its associate bodies and other political parties as well as relatives and well-wishers of the late MP joined the janaza.

After the janaza, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid homage to the late ruling party MP and eminent child specialist by placing a wreath at the coffin.

Sheikh Hasina along with senior leaders of her party also paid deep respects to their long time political colleague by placing another wreath at the coffin on behalf of Bangladesh Awami League.

A wreath was also placed at the coffin of the late lawmaker on behalf of President Abdul Hamid.

Besides, Deputy Speaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi Mia paid tributes Dr Serajul Akbar on behalf of Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and on his own behalf by placing wreaths separately.

Chief Whip ASM Feroz also paid last respects by placing a wreath at the coffin of the deceased.

Later, a special munajat was offered seeking eternal peace of the departed soul.

Four-time MP from Magura-1 constituency and Bangladesh Red Crescent Society chairman Dr Muhammad Serajul Akbar died of cardiac arrest on Monday at the age of 75.

His body will be taken to Magura on Wednesday morning where another janaza will be held in the district town at 11:00am.

The decision about his burial will be taken after the return his daughter who stays in London, said family sources.
