Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia on Friday said, ‘The current crisis in Bangladesh is political and constitutional and the ruling Awami League government and particularly Sheikh Hasina are solely responsible for the crisis.’

She claimed the ruling government had come to state power without the consent of people.

Khaleda Zia came up with the remark while briefing media at her Gulshan office on Friday.

‘There is no way for us without movement to bring back people’s voting right as the ruling party rejected our 7-point demand basis on dialogue,’ she added.

‘All political parties agreed that there is not possible to hold free, fair and transparent election under any political party and they decided to hold general election under non-party government,’ Khaleda Zia said.

She claimed the ruling government has no right to administer the country as they snatched out the people’s voting power.

She claimed, ‘After 5 January election, we withdrew the movement as the government said they would hold a mid-term election. But during the last year they rejected to hold a fresh election.’

The press briefing is arranged at the ground floor of the BNP chairperson’s office and many journalists participate at the press briefing.

Police is deployed outside of the office.

The news conference was scheduled to be held at 4:00pm in her Gulshan office, a press release signed by her press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan said on Thursday.

Former prime minister Khaleda Zia held her last press conference on 19 January after the government withdrew the siege to her office after 15 days.

She has been living in her political office since 3 January last.

On 5 January, the BNP-led 20-Party Alliance chief announced a non-stop blockade programme after having failed to come out from her Gulshan office to join her alliance’s scheduled rally in the capital on the day.

The non-stop blockade enforced by the alliance is passing its 67th day on Friday.

Besides, the alliance enforced hartal on all working days of the week for the last two months alongside its blockade.
