Three govt officials caught red-handed when taking bribe
Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday caught red-handed three officials of Divisional Engineers’ office of Chittagong while taking bribe.
A team of ACC’s Chittagong Office, led by its deputy director Mosharraf Hossain Mridha, detained them from the Divisional Engineers’ office located in the port city’s Nandan Kanon area, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattachariya told UNB.
The arrested persons are divisional engineer Pradeep Kumar Das, its cashier Gais Uddin and telecom operator Humayun Kabir.
Pranab said the detainees earlier demanded a bribe of Tk 20,000 from a freedom fighter employee by halting his pension file, which was brought to the notice of the national anti-graft agency. And while the detainees were taking the bribe money from the freedom fighter, the ACC team arrested him red-handed.
Later in the day, ACC deputy assistant director Manik Lal Das filed a case against them with Chittagong Katwali Police in this regard.
During its raid, the ACC team seized savings documents of Tk 83 lakh and Tk 1.54 lakh from their possessions.
Besides, ACC deputy assistant director Mosharraf Hossain of its Khulna district office arrested suspended storekeeper of Sonali Bank’s Doulatpur Corporate branch Sohel Hossain Joarder for allegedly plundering Tk 6.58 crore.
