Man killed in ‘gunfight’

Kushtia: A man was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Mirpur in Kushtia in the early hours of Tuesday.

The Mirpur police said a group robbers shot bullets to patrol police while they were conducting a raid on Kushtia-Mirpur road at Baruipara union at about 2:30am. Police also fired back and left a man injured.

Later, police took the bullet-hit man to Kushtia General Hospital where doctors declared him dead. The body was kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.

Three police members were injured during the ‘shootout’.

Police also seized a saw and four machetes from the spot.

Police claimed the deceased, Milon, was the leader of the robbers’ gang.

There are five cases including murder and arms cases against Milon with Mirpur police, said the police officials.
