Tangail lawmaker Rana denied HC bail again
Dhaka: The High Court on Monday turned down the bail petition of Awami League lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana in Faruk Ahmed murder case.
An HC bench compromising Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice Mohammad Ataur Rahman Khan passed the order hearing a bail petition filed by Rana’s lawyer, reports UNB.
Advocate Abdul Baset Majumder stood for Rana while deputy attorney general Mohammad Basir Ullah represented the state.
Earlier on October 17, a court in Tangail rejected the bail plea of Rana in the murder case.
Earlier on October 9, the High Court denied bail to lawmaker Rana in the case.
When Rana appeared before the additional district and session judge’s court here ending his 22-month fugitive run on September 18 the court sent him to jail.
Rana went into ‘hiding’ after he was accused in killing freedom fighter and member of district unit AL Faruk Ahmed.
On 18 January 2013, the Awami League leader was shot dead in front of his residence in the district town. Later, Faruk’s wife Nahar Ahmed filed a case in this connection.
Fourteen people, including four brothers of Tangail’s influential Khan family, were accused in the murder case.
