15 suspected human traffickers held, 11 victims rescued
Dhaka: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested 15 operatives of an international gang of human trafficking from different parts of Dhaka and rescued 11 victims from their clutches in the last few days.
RAB personnel also recovered a huge quantity of passports, fake visas of different countries, equipment of producing illegal visas, foreign currencies and Tk 16.45 from their possessions.
RAB Legal and Media Wing Assistant Director Mizanur Rahman, also an assistant superintendent of police (ASP), via a text message said huge amount of passports, Xerox copies of Visas, and money were seized from the detainees.
Details about the arrest was informed in a press conference at Karwan Bazar’s RAB Media Centre at about 12:00pm on Thursday.
During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees including ringleader Md Selimuzzaman, 41, confessed their link to human trafficking, a RAB official said, adding that they used to send people to Libya instead of sending Malaysia and Italy and then the gang tortured them and realized ransom.
RAB personnel rescued 10 victims from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while they sending to Malaysia illegally and one Libya returned person.
Legal action was taken to this end.
