Dhaka: The Gonojagoron Mancha, one of the people's resurgence platform of Bangladesh, is celebrating its fourth foundation anniversary on Sunday, chalking out various programmes in the city’s Shahbagh area.
On February 5, 2013, the protest began right following demands for capital punishment for Abdul Quader Mollah, who had been sentenced to life imprisonment, and for others convicted of war crimes by the International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh.
Student organisations started the protest immediately after the Judgement in the Shahbag square that was the actual call for people to gather in the Shahbag square within half an hour of the Judgement.
Demonstrators gathered at Shahbagh Circle; they painted murals on the road, drew cartoons, hanged effigies of war-crimes suspects and chanted slogans, with a vow to continue demonstrating until their demands were met.
To mark the day, the Gonojagoron Mancha has arranged a drawing competition titled ‘Rang Tulite Swapner Bangladesh’ at Projanmo Chattar in the city’s Shahbagh area from 2:00pm to 3:00pm on Sunday.
Gonojagoron Mancha activists are set to bring out a procession named ‘Jagoran Jatra’ at 3pm to celebrate the Gonojagoron Day.
They also have chalked out a discussion meeting titling “Communal dominance, radical fundamentalism, and 72nd’s constitution: Bangladesh is going on what path” at 3:30pm.
Apart from these, a cultural function will also be held at 6:00pm.
