Rail links between Dhaka-Ctg-Sylhet snapped
Gazipur: Rail communications of Dhaka with Sylhet and Chittagong suspended on Thursday morning after the railway tracks at Tongi were damaged as fire broke out at a nearby slam and jute warehouse in Gazipur.
Train plying was halted in the railway line on the route to avert any kind of accidents.
However, as the route includes duel railway tracks, rail communication is taking place on the other rail line.
About the fire incident, the Tongi Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Mohammad Akhteruzzaman said fire broke out at a slam and a jute warehouse under the Tongi Rail Bridge area at about 6:00am on Thursday.
The fire fighter went to the spot and doused the fire at about 7:00am.
The fire damaged the platform of railway tracks and its sleepers as the rail line was adjacent to the jute warehouse, said the fire service official.
The Gazipur Railway Police post in-charge Dadan Mia said the rail authorities temporarily halted the rail communication of the down line to avoid accidents. Though, rail link is continuing on the up line route.
Dadan Mia said after being informed, a specialist team is on their way to the accident spot. Rail communication in the down line track will be resumed after the specialists examine the damage.
