Municipality mayor Miru, 5 others put on police custody
Sirajganj: A Sirajganj court on Monday placed six people, including Shahjadpur municipality mayor Halimul Haque Miru, the prime accused in journalist Abdul Hakim Shimul killing case, on a 5-day police custody each for interrogation.
Mohammad Hasibul Haque, senior judicial magistrate issued the order after hearing.
The five other accusede are Miru’s brother Habibul Haque Mintu, K M Nasir Uddin, Hazrat Ali, Nazrul Islam and Manik.
Earlier on February 6, investigation officer of the case Monir Hossain, inspector of Shahjadpur Police Station, filed a petition seeking a seven-day remand for Miru, the suspended district Awami League organising secretary.
Later, the court also fixed 13 February for hearing on the remand plea.
Abdul Hakim Shimul, Shahjadpur upazila correspondent of vernacular daily the Dainik Samakal, sustained bullet injuries during a clash between two associate bodies of Awami League in Shahjadpur on 2 February.
Later, he died on the way to Dhaka on 3 February.
Police arrested Miru on 5 February in Dhaka.
