6 outlaws get life term for murder in Jessore
Jessore: A Jessore court on Monday convicted six members of an outlawed party and sentenced them to life term imprisonment for killing a man in 2003.
The convicts are—Haider Ali, Tushar Mandal, Hiramon Mali, Sukti Mandal, Pritish Mandal and Prashanto alias Foni Sardar of Keshabpur upaizla. Of them, Sukti Mandal, Prashanto and Hironmoy were tried in absentia.
All of them were the members of Sarbahara party. The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each.
According to the prosecution, Khejer Ali Tarafdar of Kumarghata village in Manirampur upazila was hacked to death over previous enmity on 13 July, 2003.
Masud Reza, son of the victim, filed a case with Manirampur Police Station.
Police submitted a chargesheet against seven people on 7 April, 2004. Of the chargesheeted accused, Bhutto died when the trial was going on.
After examining the records and the witnesses, Special District and Sessions Judge Nitai Chandra Saha handed down the verdict.
