3 picnickers killed as bus plunges into pond
Chapainawabganj: Three people were killed and 15 others injured as a picnic bus plunged into a roadside pond at Mohadanga in Chapainawabganj municipality on Friday afternoon.
The deceased were Entaj Ali, 65, son of late Jahur Uddin Uddin, Abdul Karim, 35, son of Nazrul Islam, and Hashim Ali, 62, son of Rashid Ali, residents of Noyadiari village in Gomostapur upazila of the district.
Chapainawabganj additional superintendent of police Mahabub Alam Khan told news agency UNB that some 150 people of Moyadiari village were returning after enjoying a picnic at a picnic spot in Sadar upazila in two buses.
When the picnickers reached Mohadanga, one of the buses skidded off the road and fell into the pond at about 4:30pm, leaving 18 people injured.
Police and firefighters rushed in and pulled out the bodies of Entaj, Karim and Hashim of the bus at about 6:30pm.
Eleven of the injured were taken to hospital, the additional SP said, adding that they feared that the death toll may rise.
