Commander Abdur Rouf remembered
Monday, 27 February 2017 was the 2nd death anniversary of the valiant freedom fighter, one of the accused of ‘Agartala Conspiracy Case’, the founder of national NGO Population Services and Training Center (PSTC) Commander (Rtd) Abdur Rouf.
In a memorial meeting held in a hotel in Banani, the attendees remembered with due respect this highly acclaimed son of the soil. Among other dignitaries, Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka was present in the meeting as chief guest.
To mark his anniversary a book was published written by the Executive Director of PSTC Dr. Noor Mohammad on the life and work of this brave personality, titling ‘Ekjon Abdur Rouf’ which was launched in the meeting through unveiling the book cover. Prof Siddique mentioned about the book underlining the need of documenting this type of personality’s work and life for the new generation of the nation.
The memorial meeting was chaired by Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, the Chairperson of PSTC. The speakers became nostalgic in remembering Commander Rouf and the association with him. The dignitaries who were present and spoke included Mufaweza Khan of CWFD, Dr. Halida H Akhter of NHSDP, Dr. Ubaidur Rob of Population Council, Faruque Ahmed of Brac International and Rokeya Kabir of BNPS. The family members of Commander Rouf, PSTC staff members and representative of several development organisations were also present to honor Commander Rouf.
