3 held over Dinajpur spiritual leader, follower killing
Dhaka: Police arrested three people in connection with the killing of a self-claimed spiritual leader of Dinajpur and his female follower from Kurigram and Dinajpur early on Wednesday.
Being tipped off, a team of police raided the house of Esahaq Ali, a self‐styled spiritual leader of Pathordubi village in Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram district, around 4:30am and arrested him, said Menhajul Alam, additional superintendent of police of Kurigram.
The arrestee was handed over to Bochaganj Police Station of Dinajpur, the ASP added.
Two others—Saidur Rahman, a khadem of Kadria Mohammadia Darbar Sharif, and his associate Samar Ali were arrested from Doula area in Bochaganj upazila of Dinajpur district at the dead of night, said Hamidul Alam, Dinajpur Superintendent of Police.
Self-claimed spiritual leader Farhad Hossain Chowdhury, of Doula village, and his female follower Rupali Begum, in her twenties, were shot to death and slaughtered by miscreants at a ‘shrine’ at Hatrampur in Bochaganj upazila of Dinajpur district on 13 March evening.
Slain Farhad was also former president of Setabganj municipality unit of BNP.
