HC stays FBCCI polls for 2 months
Dhaka: The High Court on Wednesday stayed for two months the election process of the country's apex trade body, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI).
An HC bench of Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Ashish Ranjan Das passed the order responding to a petition filed by Mymensingh Chamber President Aminul Haque.
Earlier on March 6, the petition was filed challenging the legality of the election as the FBCCI did not nominate any single person from the Mymensingh Division.
As per the resolution of the apex trade body, at least one director should be nominated from each division.
The HC also issued a rule asking the government to explain why the authorities concerned should not be given directives to nominate a director from Mymensingh Division.
Earlier on February 14, the election board of the FBCCI fixed May 14 for holding the elections.
