Flower Fest kicks off
Dhaka: A three-day flower festival 'Bangladesh Flower Fest-2017' began on the Bangla Academy premises in the city on Thursday.
Innovation and Incubation Center for Enterprises (IICE) organized the Flower Fest with the cooperation of USAID, Bangladesh Flower Society (BFS), Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SEU), Bangladesh Photographic Society (BPS) and Deshifool.com.
Chairman of the Standing Committee on Ministry of Agriculture Mokbul Hossain said in the opening ceremony as chief guest said they had started working on the good production of flowers with all modern facilities. “Flower traders can send some recommendations to us for the development. We will then send the recommendations to ministries. They will decide,” he added.
He said “We need a planned policy to develop the flower market in Bangladesh. Once upon a time we cannot imagine the money value of the flowers. Now it’s time to take special care of this sector turning it into money-making value chain like many countries.”
A total of 14 pavilions and 33 stalls of flower producers, traders, wedding farms and event management companies were installed in the fair for displaying the flowers of different varieties.
The festival also featured a fashion show, cultural programme, food zone, kid’s corner, workshop, photo booth, flower tunnel, workshop on rooftop gardening and seminar, etc. The festival also includes a drawing competition for the children.
BFS President Abdur Rahim presided over the inaugural ceremony while vice –chancellor of SEU Dr AFM Jamal Uddin, former secretary of Agricultural Ministry Anwar Faruk, and agriculturist Hamidur Rahman spoke at the ceremony.
The flower fest will continue from 10 am to 8pm till Saturday.
