Man gets life term over Korean citizen killing
Dhaka: A Dhaka tribunal on Thursday convicted a man and sentenced him to life term imprisonment in a case filed over killing a Korean citizen in 2011.
Dhaka Speedy trial Tribunal 4 Judge Abdur Rahman Sarder also fined convict Manik Sardar, a dish cleaner of Arian Korean Restaurant, Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer one year more rigorous imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, Manik Sardar swooped on the residence of Rou Jong Sing, an owner of Arian Korean Restaurant, located in the city’s Gulshan area and hit her with a sharp weapon over a previous enmity on November 9, 2011.
She was taken to Appollo Hospital and then moved to Korea for better treatment. Later, on 17 November the same year, she succumbed to her injuries.
Park Dang Sing, husband of the Korean citizen and also the owner of the restaurant, filed a case with Gulshan Police on the same day.
Police arrested Manik Sardar and submitted a chargesheet against him on July 23, 2012.
After examining records and witnesses, Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal‐4 Judge Abdur Rahman Sardar handed down the verdict.
