4 BCL men hurt in clash over occupying seat in student hall
Four Bangladesh Chhatra Leauge (BCL) activists were injured during infighting between two factions of the party for occupying a seat at Salimullah (SM) Hall in University of Dhaka on Thursday night.
The followers of BCL president and general secretary were involved in the clash at about 11:45pm.
The injured are Arif, a student of year IV of Education and Research Institute, follower of the BCL president, while Raihan Kabir, student of year IV of Department of Music, Tuhin, a MA student of Department of Urdu, and Jahid, a year III student of Department of Dance, are the followers of the general secretary.
Three of the injured took primary treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. One of the injured is admitted to the hospital.
However, witnesses said around two days before, some year I students, who are also the followers of the general secretary, beat two other year I students, who are followers of the president, over occupying a seat at the porch of SM Hall.
Following the conflict, the followers of presidents attacked on the followers of general secretary on Thursday night. The activists also vandalized some of the rooms of the students’ residence.
Later, the university’s acting proctor Professor Dr AM Amzad, hall provost Professor Mahbubul Alam Jowarder, and BCL’s DU wing president Abid Al Hassan went to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Police deployed at the main entrance of the hall.
BCL’s general secretary Mehedi Hassan Tapash told NTV Online ‘Two groups of BCL involved in a clash. We have already solved the conflict.’
The hall’s provost Professor Mahbubul Alam Jowarder said an investigation committee has been formed in this connection.
