Man held over Australian High Commission bomb threat
Dhaka: Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit under Dhaka Metropolitan Police detained a man for his alleged involvement in the threat to blow up the Australian High Commission in Dhaka.
CTTC members held the man from the Banasree area of the capital on Thursday night.
Police claimed the detainee is Shimanta.
DMP Assitant Commissioner (Media) Shuman Kanti Chowdhury told NTV Online details about the arrest will be disclosed in a press conference at DMP’s media centre at about 11:30am.
Earlier, on 25 April, the Australian High Commission located at Dhaka’s Gulshan-2 area received a threat through a message from an unknown email.
The extortion of Tk five lakh was demanded to the high commission through an email and a written threat is given to blow up the high commission office if it fails to provide the extortion.
The security forces always remain vigilant at Dhaka’s posh diplomatic enclave and more security forces have been beefed up at the high commission after the email threat.
