Parliament session starts with condolence motion
Parliament on Tuesday unanimously adopted a condolence motion expressing profound grief at the demise of a former state minister and six former lawmakers.
Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury moved the condolence motion in the House at the beginning of the 15th session.
The former state minister is M Nurul Huda while six late former MPs are Col (Retd) AA Maruf Saklain, Dhirendra Nath Saha, Alhaj AKM Abdul Khaleq Chantu, Kazi M Anwar Hossain, Ehsan Ali Khan and Ahsan Ahmed.
The House also adopted the condolence motion at the death of one of the accused of Agartala Conspiracy Case and close associate of the father of the nation Mahfuzul Bari; former foreign secretary and Bangladeshi ambassador in Brazil Mohammad Mijarul Kayes; language movement hero Khawja Zahirul Huq; eminent industrialist Mirza Ali Behrouze Ispahani; Narsingdi Zila Parishad chairman and veteran Awami League leader Advocate Asadojjaman; Jahanara Zaman, wife of the national leader AHM Kamruzzman; former chairman of University Grants Commission Dr ATM Zahurul Huq; eminent journalist, organiser of the Liberation War, columnist and poet Siddique Ahmed; eminent journalist, politician, freedom fighter and editor of Daily Sun Amir Hossain; eminent singer and freedom fighter Lucky Akhand; eminent song writer, composer, singer and music director Kuti Monsur and famous actor of Bangladesh film industry Miju Ahmed.
A munajat seeking eternal peace of the departed souls was offered in the House. AKM Awal Saidur Rahman conducted the munajat (prayer).
The members of the House also stood up and observed a one-minute solemn silence to pay respect to the memories of the deceased.
