Top prison officials from 13 countries visit Kashimpur Jail
Gazipur: Top prison officials from 13 countries of the Asia-Pacific region visited the Kashimpur Central Jail here on Friday.
The officials, including inspector generals of prisons, reached the jail around 9:30am and later visited the Kashimpur Central Jail-2 and Kashimpur Women Central Jail, said jail super of Kashimpur Central Jail-1 Prashanta Kumar Banik.
They were briefed on the security measures of the jail, various facilities for prisoners, modern technology and correctional activities.
They also exchanged views with the jail authorities, said Prashanta.
Inspector General (IG) of Prisons Brig Gen Syed Iftekhar Uddin was present at that time.
Earlier, the top prison officials from 14 countries, including Bangladesh, participated in the four-day the 4th Asia-Pacific Correctional Managers' Conference that began in the capital on May 16.
The rest countries are Cambodia, China, Fiji, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Maldives, Myanmar, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vanuatu.
International Committee of the Red Cross and Bangladesh Jail Department jointly arranged the conference.
