Sylhet transport strike postponed
Sylhet: Several hours after enforcing an indefinite strike in Sylhet division to press home their five-point demand, transport workers postponed it on Sunday afternoon.
Sylhet Transport Workers' Union President Selim Ahmed Falik said they took the decision after a meeting with Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) commissioner in the afternoon.
Earlier, the workers' union enforced the strike in four districts of the division at 6am today.
No long-route bus or truck was seen plying since the morning, causing untold sufferings to passengers.
A large number of people, including students, traders and office goers, were seen waiting on the road for public transports.
Sylhet Transport Workers' Union on Friday announced the strike to press home their five-charter demand.
The demands include withdrawal of all cases filed against transport workers, cancellation of the registration of trade union of the president of Sramik League and a ban on carrying passengers by motorcycles on Sylhet-Companiganj route.
