DSCC Mayor warns against market manipulation
Dhaka: Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon on Saturday warned that stern action will be taken if any unscrupulous businessman charges excess prices of essentials during Ramadan.
"Tough action will be taken if any dishonest trader artificially raises the prices of daily essentials on the pretext of Ramadan," he said.
The mayor issued the warning while visiting the city's Hatirpool kitchen market as part of the DSCC's move to monitor markets to keep the prices of essentials stable.
Khokon said eight mobile teams of the DSCC have started monitoring 29 kitchen markets under it. "All the markets are now stable."
The mayor said the mobile teams, led by executive magistrates, will take action wherever they get any irregularity. "We'll also take action if any city dweller lodges complains about market anomalies," he added.
DSCC chief executive officer (CEO) Khan Md Bilal, revenue officer Yusuf Ali Sarder and officials of the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate were present.
