Budget session begins; to continue till 13 July
Sangsad Bhaban: The 4th budget session of the 10th parliament began at 11:00am with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith will place the national budget for the upcoming fiscal year (2017-18) at 1:30pm on Thursday (1 June). The budget session (16th session) will continue till 13 July next.
The decisions were taken at a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of the House held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban earlier in the day with the Speaker in the chair.
The meeting also decided that the House will sit at 10:30am on every working day during the month of Ramadan (except June 1). The Speaker will have the authority to bring any change to the duration of the sittings and extend or curtail its length.
Business Advisory Committee members Opposition Leader Raushon Ershad, Prime Minister’s Special Envoy HM Ershad, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah, Abul Hasnat Abdullah, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, Chief ASM Feroz, Moin Uddin Khan Badal and Law minister Anisul Huq attended the meeting. Finance Minister AMA Muhith was present at the meeting on a special invitation.
The parliament session will remain adjourned from 2 to 4 June and from 23 to 27 June on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The MPs have been allocated a total of 45 hours for the discussion over the proposed national budget in the House.
The national budget for 2017-18 fiscal year will be passed in the House on 28 June.
Muhith at different pre-budget discussions hinted that the size of the new budget will be Tk 4,20,000 crore (4.2 trillion) with a target of 7.4 per cent GDP growth.
