Mirza Fakhrul off to Australia
Dhaka: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir went to Sydney early Wednesday to join the national convention of Australian Liberal Party.
Fakhrul together with his wife Rahat Ara Begum left Hazrat Shahjalal International at about 1:05am by a Singapore Airlines flight.
He reached Sydney at about 4:00pm (BST), said BNP chairperson's media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan.
Talking to news agency UNB before his departure, the BNP leader said, "I'm going to Sydney at the invitation of Australian Liberal Party to join its convention to be held on Friday."
Later, Fakhrul said he will go to his daughter Mirza Shamaruh's residence in Australia's capital Canberra and celebrate the eid there.
The BNP secretary general is expected to return home on June 30.
